Love Hodel and Makai McNamara make the Round 2 heat at Vans World Cup of Surfing
Hawaii’s Love Hodel and his fellow countryperson Makai McNamara were able to secure their place in the second round (Round of 96) at the Vans World Cup of Surfing, the second of third stops on the 30th anniversary Vans Triple Crown of Surfing,
after clinching victory in their respective Round 1 (Round of 128) heats that went down at Sunset Beach in Oahu, Hawaii, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
America’s Cory Arrambide finished behind Hodel in second place during the seventh heat to make his way through into the next round, while Basque Country’s Aritz Aranburu and Brazil’s Caio Ibelli rounded out the bottom-two positions, thus getting eliminated
from the competition.
The eighth heat saw Australia’s Lincoln Taylor accompany McNamara to Round 2 after claiming runner-up position. Hawaii’s Dylan Goodale finished in third place, while his compatriot Torrey Meister had to settle for fourth place. Both the surfers were consequently
removed from the contention for the event title.
The demanding surfing conditions prevailing at the main event site for the latest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime event served as a thrilling stage for the exciting surfers from around the globe to take each other on.
Hodel managed to adapt to the challenging swell gracing Sunset Beach during his battle against Arrambide, Aranburu and Ibelli in the seventh heat.
The local talent earned himself a 7.83 off his first business-wave and went on to back it up with a 4.57-point ride, thus registering a decisive heat-total of 12.40 points.
Arrambide made the Round 2 cut as well after securing runner-up position through a heat-total of 10.43 points, which included a 6.83 and 3.60-point ride.
Aranburu and Ibelli got eliminated from the competition after rounding out the bottom-two positions due to their respective heat-total of 9.67 and 7.57-point ride.
The eighth heat saw McNamara get the better of Taylor, Goodale and Meister to secure his place in the next round.
The Hawaiian surfer posted a 6.70 on the score-board off his first business-wave and went on to add an additional 6.10 to his account, thus registering a heat-total of 12.80 points.
Taylor made is through into the next round as well after finishing with a heat-total of 11.60 points, which included a 7.17 and 4.43-point ride.
Goodale and Meister rounded out the bottom-two positions after finishing with a heat-total of 9.36 and 8.33-point ride.
