Love hands over roles to Verplank and Sluman, hints at a few names as well
With just a month left now in the start of the most awaited tournament of the year, Ryder Cup, teams are now starting to gear up for the show down at Medinah. USA Team captain is not leaving things for the 11th hour. He has almost made up his
mind regarding each and every bit.
On the other hand, the European Team captain, Jose Maria Olazabal is leaving things for the eleventh hour.
Either he is not sure about his team or he is just creating doubts in the Americans’ mind. However, inside reports say that he is waiting for the final points list and then he will decide on how to go about things.
Meanwhile USA Captain, Davis Love III is quite clear about his team and he seems pretty confident as well. He had already named his two assistants previously and he has named the rest of the two as well.
Scott Verplank and Jeff Suman will be accompanying the USA team as assistant captains. They join the likes of Fred Couples and Mike Hulbert to complete the backroom team of USA.
Love has almost named four of his wild card picks as well. He hinted that Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk will three of his four wild card picks and Rickie Fowler might edge ahead of Dustin Johnson to complete the pack of twelve.
He had his reasons for these choices. He said that Stricker and Tiger go along very well, where as Furyk can be paired with almost any player.
When asked about Rickie Fowler, he said that Bubba Watson and Fowler go along very well. They will make a decent pair.
"They had a lot of fun - they loosened up our team," Love commented. "Obviously Bubba and Rickie go well together in everything they do, on and off the golf course. Maybe not that well in those videos, but they go very well together".
Judging by the looks of it, it seems that Love is very methodical in his approach. Team USA is looking to clinch back the Ryder Cup, which it lost two years ago in Celtic.
Love will be taking a mixed bunch of players with him. He will be needing quite a few experienced players as he himself said that.
“We are going to need some guys with experience, that's obvious," Love added. "When you look at our top 15 or 20, some names obviously jump out at you - like Hunter has won twice this year”.
