Love stories but not romance novels...?

Question

I love amazing love stories, but romance novels seem too have way more s*x then plot and I can't stand that. Can anyone recommend some great love stories (like Nicholas Sparks novels)? They can have s*x in them I just don't want that to be the main part.

Hi Sarah,

As you know every story has a sexual component even when it is not explicit. Smiling, even Snow White and Cinderella had that going for them. It is as natural as eating and sleeping.

I always found many of the short stories of, O'Henry, romantic. Some of his language is dated, but even with that, his stories are worth a look, especially, 'The Gift of the Magi'.

A more modern book by Jack Finny, 'Time and Again' is a fantastic story about romance set in the science fiction genre.

I am sure others will give you more and better ideas. Why not ask your liberian and your teachers.

Well Joanne Bertin is an oldie but a goodie :)  She has a GREAT love story in The Last Dragonlord but I wasn't too fond of her second book.

If you like love stories you'll ADORE Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series.  Yes, it DOES have "love" scenes in it but they aren't what the story centers around.  I have read hundreds of romance books and have yet to find a writer who captures love as thoroughly as Sherri does.  Each book had me aching for each and every character.

When Vane tells Bride's old boyfriend off?  PRICELESS!

When Wren brings Maggie chocolates at school?!  *swoon*

When Talon gives Sunshine his prized Pez despenser?  IN TEARS!  :)  

Anywhoo, they really ARE romantic and I don't think you'd regret reading them :)

Firstly, The Road by Cormac McCarthy is not a love story..it's an apocalyptic dystopian novel:P

The Kite Runner is also not a love story.

Atonement is a good bet...it is a very well written book, but can be a little confusing.

Jane Austin is too much of a Soap Opera for me.

Read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte!

I don't know if you only want modern novels because there are some great classics such as Anna Karenina by Tolstoy.

Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey is a very unusual love story set in Australia when people were first settling that country.

I personally love Jane Austen novels. Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorite books. And a more classic and classy romance does not exist.
