  1. Well, with a new bird it is advisable to take things very slow. Start by just talking to it softly, hands behind your back. As your bird gets more accustomesd to you, you can try to get it onto your finger, and eventually hold it. You can play with it by using bells, toilet paper rolls, and bright toys bought from the Pet Store. Use your best judgement when picking out toys. You don't want it to choke or get hurt.

  2. What do you mean "hold"? Birds in general don't like to be held. Can you pick her up? That's usually what they like, is just to be close to you. Let her out of her cage and let her come to you, when she does give her treats like fresh lettuce, carrot, apple etc. Eventually she'll let you pick her up and put on your shoulder.

  3. When you say "stimulate", do you mean "keep her busy"? When literature on parrots say stimulate, this is what they mean.

You can keep her occupied by making sure she has a large cage (to allow flight), some toys with bells (for audio stimulation), lots of shredable toys (wicker balls, plain paper, balsa wood), and offer her a chopped up mix of veggies (visual/taste stimulation).

Give her the veggies mix every day and re-arrange the cage every week to keep her happy.

You could also have the radio set on a timer, so she can hear music for a few hours a day. My budgies love to chatter to the noise.

No, birds don't have to be held to be happy. Just take good care of her and make sure she has lots of other types of stimulation.

    Have fun!
