Question:

Lovebird breeding question?

Hi!

Well, I am breeding Lovebirds, and I was curious...

When they have the babies, and the babies are old enough to look after themselves, can they all still live in the same cage the mother and father did? (Including the mother and father) but without the breeding box so they do not breed.

It is a huge cage large enough for many birds.

Please reply, Tess.

  1. A large cage should be fine. The parents will always stay together.

  2. It depends. Most lovebirds get very territorial. Unless you have a cage that is literally taking up a whole room, probably not. Once the chicks are old enough, and the parents want to breed again, they'll pick on the chicks to try and get them to leave. Even large cages (where you can technically house multiple birds), will be claimed as "mine" by a breeding pair. Unless you can somehow separate the cage into sections, I'd expect fights after awhile.
