Question:

Lovebird diseases?

Are lovebirds prone to many diseases? Especially I'm concerned with the ones that can be passed onto humans.

I have a budgie, and I really want to get another bird (because I find birds amazing and because he seems lonely). But at one time, we thought he had parrot fever and that week was just insane. Most of my family members had to go to a doctor. It turned out that it was another disease, and it's symptoms were like those of a parrot fever; and it happened that the budgie was under stress that first week. So, it all ended up well. But my parents will not go for another budgie again.

  1. Birds are a different species than humans and their viruses are not compatible with the human organism and vice versa. Don't worry that much, you can't get diseases from birds. Those are very rare cases that happened in weird conditions, not when the birds are raised in our homes.

When the avian flue was detected in my country nothing happened. Cage birds can't get it from the air.

  2. Lovebirds are just like other parrots.

This website has many of the common bird diseases.  Just click on the name to get a ton of information: http://www.pricelessparrots.com/diseases...

  3. No, just keep the cage clean and always fresh water and food available, it'll be fine.

  4. well i dont know...but when i had my lovebirds (so cute) they were perfectly fine and never caught anything
