Question:

Lovebirds Dilemma?

Some close family friends entrusted their lovebirds to my family and I to look after for 26 days while they're on vacation. A few hours ago, I was checking up on the birds in their cage. A few inches away from the cage was one ear phone [the kind that you use for iPods; this ear phone was ripped apart from the wire attached to it a few weeks ago] with a part of it missing.

I have a younger sister [4 years old] and I'm afraid that she may have dropped the ear phone into the cage or held it close to the beaks of the lovebirds and that the lovebirds ate some of it [the missing part]. I couldn't find the little part missing anywhere nearby.

There's also the possibility that the earphone was crushed by something else -- it's just that I don't recall seeing it by the birdcage a few hours ago.

By the way, this ear phone was found about 1 and a half to 2 hours ago -- since then I don't see any problems with the digestive or excretory systems of the birds.

So my questions are:

  1. Doubt they ate it....IF they chewed on it, you would see some traces of the chewed up missing part.  Did you ask you sister if she may have put that missing piece in her mouth ? Lovebirds can chews pretty much anything except for their cage.  They've chewed up my DVD case, twistie ties, wood etc etc.
