  1. It's going to depend on a lot of factors. Do you know the sexes of any of the birds? You might have 4 males and only 2 females....

Also, individual birds all calm down at individual paces. Some birds might take months to feel comfortable in their new home, especially if they were not handled in their previous home.

Conditions are also a big factor. Once the birds are all settled, if they were paired up before, it might be shorter. If you just got 6 random birds, they need to get to know one another before you're going to see breeding. Birds won't breed just because you have a male and female, they have to like each other enough first.

Do they have enough space? Enough sunlight? Enough food (good foods, not all seeds, pellets, and fresh foods are ideal)? Fresh water? is it warm enough? Conditions need to be correct before you'll see any breeding as well.

So basically, there's no set time. It's up to your set up, and the individual birds. If you just picked 6 birds without knowing the s*x or if they were paired up before (they'll also pair up as same s*x pairs- so just because you see 2 that look lovey dovey, doesn't mean you'll ever get chicks from them) you might have until next spring before you'll get any breeding or nesting.

  2. Did you even do any research before buying them? What sort of questions did you ask the breeder?

I spent the better part of 2 months researching pet mice that I thought I was going to get, but ended up not getting them.

Some people spend upwards of 6 months if they plan to breed the animals, or some spend a year, or more.

  3. Usually hook bill birds like ours will begin really breeding in late october, and breed having babies all the way through march, so keep that in mind in giving them time to breed. For right now just feed them good and keep them all clean to asure healthy babies during the winter months.
