Lovely Lil finds it easy in the Go For Wand Handicap at Big A
There wouldn’t be a better way of explaining the term “cruised to home” than the way Lovely Lil found it relatively easy than any of her trips in the past, to find her rhythm and land her first graded stakes of her career to win in the Grade 2, $150,000
Go For Wand Handicap at Aqueduct race course on 25 November, 2011, when she defeated a lineup of seven other 3-year-old and up fillies in front running fashion.
Michael Hushion trained 4-year-old filly, Lovely Lil dismissed her competition after being sent at 15 to 1 and posted a 1 ¼ lengths victory over the even choice favourite All Due Respect in second place.
"It's been a happy Thanksgiving," Hushion said. Because the trainer landed another graded stakes win one day prior to the Go For Wand Handicap, when he sent out Sunrise Smarty in the Grade 3, $100,000 Fall Highweight Handicap, as she won the race in the
same fashion on 24 November, 2011.
Barry K. Schwartz owned New York bred filly is the daughter of Tiznow, out of mare How About Now by Pentelicus. Lovely Lil has had a pretty good season with not even once finishing off the board in her five starts.
On 27 July, she kicked off her season with a start in an allowance claimer over at 6 furlongs, and came out as victor at Saratoga’s dirt course.
Staying at Saratoga, Lovely Lil was sent to participate in the Union Avenue Stakes, over at six furlongs which she bagged as well with the winning time of 1 minute and 10.59 seconds, defeating Nicole’s Miss El and Lady Gracenote on the way, who finished
second and third respectively.
Going off to a grade 2 event at Belmont Park, Lovely Lil finished 3rd in the six and a half furlong long Gallant Bloom Stakes to winner Pomeroys Pistol and Tamarind Hall who finished second.
Lovely Lil was coming off a second place finish in the Go for Wand Handicap. She ran in the Iroquois Stakes over at seven furlongs at Belmont Park. Risky Rachel won the race with the winning time of 1 minute and 23.14 seconds with Spa City Princess in third.
