Lovely Lil improving her racing record by winning the Union Avenue Stakes at Saratoga
Starting off slowly but picking up the pace to get back in the fray and compete on the Saratoga dirt, Lovely Lil edged past opponents to land the $75,000 Union Avenue Stakes at Saratoga racecourse on 22 August, 2011.
The six furlong dash was primarily for New York bred fillies and mares.
The Tiznow filly, under Ramon Dominguez, didn’t break out of the gates like she would’ve liked, ending up as the last one to come out of the stalls, as she tracked leaders to begin with.
Lovely Lil, 4-year-old, was sent as the 4 to 5 favourite to win the race in the field of seven fillies and mares. Slow break or no, Lovely Lil looked comfortable when she had the task of chasing pace setters.
Ramon Dominguez, positioning the filly on the inside, waited for the cue to give his filly the permission to blast off when the range was right.
The pair took off in the lane and spurted past their opponents to land a second win in two starts for Lovely Lil, winning the Union Avenue Stakes by 1 ¾ lengths.
It was a good rally between Nicole’s Miss El and My Sire’s Fire for the second place behind Lovely Lil, as Nicole’s Miss El took care of the pace setting filly in fine style after a brief rally and gained the lead briefly herself, approaching the three sixteenths
mark.
Lady Gracenote made a strong run from the back to go past My Sire’s Fire, the filly wound up third behind Nicole’s Miss El, who finished second 2 ¾ lengths ahead of the third place finisher.
Lovely Lil on the other hand, despite making a slow start, made up for it and finished the race and completed the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 10.59 seconds.
Prior to the Union Avenue Stakes, Lovely Lil out of How about Now by Pentelicus, defeated the lot in another six furlong dash at the Saratoga race course on 27 July, 2011, when she ran in an allowance race.
She covered the distance in 1 minute and 10.56 seconds on dirt.
