I am a new commercial Pilot struggling to find low time pilot jobs. Does anyone know of places that are hiring low time pilots. I have checked climb350 and a few other aviation sites with no luck. I would love to find a Traffic Watch job but cannot find any information on where to find them. I searched the net with no luck.

  1. PSA I heard was hiring pilots at very low time... I beleive all you need for them is your multi commercial with inst rating and they will give you additional time in the sim.

I heard Pinnacle and Trans States was hiring at pretty low hours, but don't have specific numbers on them.

    Best of luck!

  2. My second flying job (gotten while I was working as a CFII) was doing Traffic Watch for a local radio station. It was a great time-builder and I enjoyed it.  Most radio stations either contract with a local FBO or an independent person who owns an airplane. A few own their own aircraft. Listen to your local stations and figure out who is providing traffic reports, then call them and find out who does their flying. Some just get the traffic info second hand (esp typical for NPR stations) and several often share one aircraft. Eventually you'll find the source and then you can go talk to them about a job. I started as a relief pilot once per week and ended up doing it Mon-Fri, 2 hours or so each morning, and then I'd go to work at the flight school.  In two years I flew something like 1,000 hours of traffic watch and made pretty good bank doing it, on top of my CFI pay. Switching to a Commuter Airline flying copilot on turboprops (so I could build multi-time) was a cut in pay and not as much fun.

    Good luck.

p.s. who you know is indeed as important as what you know or your experience

  3. Joe I knew 2 guys who flew traffic reporting but they both knew someone inside at the radio station to get their feet in the door. Unfortunately that is how most jobs are found. Are you thinking about continuing to get your flight instructor ratings?  That is probably the best way to build hours and meet contacts. I wish I could help. Good Luck

  4. If you're looking for a 121 job, you might have to get an ATP.

  5. Just about any FO job out there with a commuter is hiring anywarmbody. I know that Mesaba has a 250 hour home schooled pilot in CRJ 800 training! WOW.

  6. go back to your instructor or school from which you got your certificates from.. ask them if they know anyone that they could recommend you to.. thats how i got my job with minimum hours.. I'm working for a 121 freight company.. you gotta remember that its all about who you know.. use those resources.. you'll be surprised..
