Question:

Low amniotic fluid and small uterus? - 35 weeks pregnant?

Today, I am officially 35 weeks pregnant today. I went to the doctor and she said, that my baby might be small therefore she fit me into the ultrasound room schedule today. As the lady was doing the measurements it was determined that I have low amniotic fluid. She said something that my levels are suppose to be around 79 and they are 71 (whatever that means). So today I learned from my doctor I also have a small uterus and my baby weighs 4 lbs 15 ounces, but the doctor said my blood pressure and urine test are fine. I go back for an ultrasound next week.

Has anyone been told the same thing before?

or

Does anyone know what the results could be?

  1. My last pregnancy was a strange one also. My baby measured weeks behind and they could tell there was something wrong. But all the tests came back normal. We didn't find out till our daughter was 1 that she has a rare form of dwarfism called Russell-Silver Syndrome. She's 3 now and doing great. There are certain things we have to look out for and keep up on... but RSS is the birth 'defect' I would pick over all the other things they thought my daughter had. You might want to ask about dwarfism... inform yourself.

  2. No one can tell you the exact size or weight of your baby in utero. Measuring and ultrasounds give false results in these matters. An ultrasound cannot determine accurately the level of your amniotic fluid as your baby is constantly moving and shifting position. Another ultrasound in a week could give you the complete opposite measurements. This is all needless information to worry about. Your blood pressure and urine test are the most important indicators of your pregnancy health. I am sure you will have a completely different diagnosis after another ultrasound that you already have scheduled.

As long as you are not secretly dieting, are not a drug addict and you are healthy, you can be assured that your baby is just the right size, not too small and not too big, just right, as you will find out in the next ultrasound, I am sure.

Make sure you are taking the first day of your last period and counting forward 42 weeks if you are a first time mother. Do not use measuring or ultrasounds for estimating due dates as they are inaccurate for this purpose. Congrats and best wishes, G
