Question:

Low cost UK Colleges or Universities?

I'm looking to go to college next year. But I feel for me to get the best education it would be in England. I am a US citizen. What I am asking can you recommend a starter college or university or a low cost school I can apply to. With the currency exchange schools in England are looking financially unobtainable.

  1. In scotland, Aberdeen College is best,

  2. I think that tuition fees will be about the same no matter where you go. Well obviously London will be more than everywhere else, but I think the others will be roughly the same.

Accommodation on the other hand... if you want to get accommodation as cheap as possible, then stay away from South England - it's ridiculously expensive, especially in comparison to places like Manchester (which the Uni is also very good), Cardiff (good uni too), etc.

You can also apply for funding, but it will be very competitive...

  3. All of them are low cost compared to the US, even though you're charged more as an international student. Some are very expensive, mostly the top unis, but most are between £8,000-£10,000. It sometimes depends on the course too. Why not start by researching which universities do the course you want? Do a course search on www.ucas.ac.uk

  4. Leedsmet (a.k.a Leeds Metropolitan University) prides itself as being one of the cheapest Universities; charging £2000 rather then the £3000 every other uni charges per year for domestic students. Im not sure on the cost for international students but leedsmet again offers cheaper prices there too. The city of Leeds has been voted as one of the best cities for students, with some of most reasonable accommodation. As a American I can only advise you to avoid the South of England as it is the most expensive, look to the North i.e. Yorkshire, Teeside etc.

    Best of luck
