I went to donate blood last week and they wouldn't take because my iron levels were low (10.3) they sent off a sample of blood, the results have come back reading platelets at 720 & advising a GP visit. Should I be worried?

  1. A normal count is about 150,000 to 450,000 platelets per microliter  in adults, so I'm not sure what your reading of 720 is.  Could it be you misunderstood?

As for you iron level, normal for women is about 12-16.  Every one is different and it depends on age and s*x.  But if you are having migraines and feeling cold all the time, sounds like you are anemic.  Check with a doctor and DO NOT take iron supplements without a doctors supervision.  Having too much iron is as bad as having too little.  In the meantime, try eating foods that are high in iron such as broccoli, red meat (especially liver)  and lentils.
