I have over the counter pain killers which are advil and I have percription pain killers. Advil isn't doing that good for me and the percription pain killers work really good but I don't have many left and I can't get a refill. I thought about taking more of those Advil pills at a time. I'm suppose to take one every 4 to 6 hours but I was think about taking like about 2 or 3 at a time or should I do something else? If so, what should I do?

  1. You didn't say what kind of pain and where the pain is.  Different things work for different types of pain.  I would suggest trying some aleve, but you can only take that every 12 hours, however it seems to work much better than ibuprofen (Advil).  Call you Dr. on Monday.  There also may be some other things you can do depending on the type/location like hot water bottles, cold packs, stretching, massage, accupuncture, etc.  Don't discount alternative therapy, it can offer alot of relief.  So does distraction - get a really good movie and distract yourself from the pain.

  2. follow the dosage instructions on the label of the advil medicine.

  3. It is safe to take up to 800mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day. That is what my doctor has me on. It can cause some stomach discomfort though.

  4. Probably not a good idea.  Your best bet would be to go the dr. He might be able to give you some more.  You didn't say what the pain killers were for so that's the best advice I can give you.
