Question:

Low pressure on my pool pump?

I have a 12x24 Kayak with a 1hp sand filter. The pool and pump was used that I just purchased and just set up. The pump is a 1hp sand filter. I have no leaks in the plumping and no signs of water dripping any where but my pressure reads only 2 pounds. I put on a new pressure guage and it reads the same. I have a bottom drain with a 3 way valve, I move the valve (skimmer to bottom drain) and it only changes the pressure by 1 pound. The question is that I appear to have good flow at the return and good suction at the skimmer. I got no air bubbles at the return any thoiughts. The pump does appear to be 15 years pld and appears ok but is on the loud side.

  1. I may be mistaken but, on my past pools, the pressure went up when the filter needed back-flushed. As long as you have good suction and flow, I don't think there is a problem. You could call a pool supply and they can tell you.
