Question:

Low progestrone!! Please help...?

I ovulate each cycle and chart temps etc but dr is running some blood tests at the minute and my results so far are showing low progestrone levels. My Luteal phase is often shorter which could interfere with the attachment of an egg. I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced this and knows if there is anything i can do to increase my levels.. Any success stories would be nice. I asked the Dr about Clomid so think that may be the next step. Thanks x

  1. Sounds like you are in good hands and that the doctor is taking good care of you and running the correct tests.

Low progesterone and luteal phase defects are actually pretty easy to overcome in the whole scheme of fertility issues.  Medicated cycles with fertility drugs like clomid can show an increase in progesterone as well as seeing that you ovulate . . . but there are also progesterone supplements that can be prescribed as a pill, vaginal suppository or injection.  These supplements work quite well and are usually started after ovulation or a positive pregnancy test.

Keep working with your doctor & loads of baby dust!

  2. Yes, Clomid would be a good idea, because it not only stimulates the eggs to be better quality and more mature when they rupture, but good eggs make better progesterone. The other alternative, which your doctor might also want to try, is progesterone suppositories. I used additional progesterone and my luteal phase went from 10 to 13 days in the first month. You're likely to get überPMS from it, mostly crying and stuff, but it's pretty safe to use as long as you only begin after a confirmed ovulation.

  3. I don't understand what clomid will do for you...you're ovulating and clomid helps you ovulate...I think it's over-prescribed...

Anyways, there are lots of things you can do to help extend the LP! Here are a few options for you!

One thing is a VitB complex (with 6 and 12).

Another thing you could try is Macca Root, as I've heard it helps increase pro.

Also, there are progesterone creams you can buy OTC or have prescribed for you which would be more helpful that clomid...you simply use them in the LP either until AF starts or until pregnancy is achieved...if you do get PG, you need to continue the cream for a while, as a sharp drop of Pro can cause a miscarriage.

  4. My RE discovered my progesterone as being very low as well. It literally has gone in this order, since I started taking Clomid: 0.1, 1.1, 11.2, 12.1. So, it defintely helped increased the levels, and I was amazed! I was ovulating before, so I know that Clomid helps. She put me on a high dose of 100mg. The progesterone is probably one of the most important hormones, as it prepares the body for pregnancy. Good luck! Def. talk to your dr about the different options.
