Low temperatures are likely to hamper today’s races at Ludlow
The continuous frost and low temperatures are likely to affect the fixtures of Wednesday, February 1 at Ludlow horseracing track. In a bid to avert any sort of nuisance, the track curators have decided to make a keen inspection of the venue before the start
of the card.
By Monday night, the temperature had fallen to -6C, and it fell further on Tuesday. However, the weather forecast for today is a bit more promising to that of Monday and Tuesday.
Due to the low temperatures, the track has enough moisture which may hamper the horses from running comfortably. Especially the take-offs and landings have been affected severely by the bad weather. However, these places were covered last night in order
to stop further dampness.
The clerk of the course, Bob Davies, said, “There is still frost in the ground but temperatures are forecast to rise today. If the frost clears and the forecast does as it should - which it didn't last night - then we should be fine.”
He added, “But if it drops to -5C again then we might be in trouble. We are in the lap of the gods, really. All the vulnerable areas, such as take-offs and landings, have been covered and I will assess our prospects at midday."
The Ludlow course is going to host seven races today, starting from 1:40. The events are entitled as follows:

Bull Ring Juvenile Hurdle (1:40, 11 runners)   Dinham Beginners´ Chase (2:10, 8 runners) Stokesay Mares´ Handicap Hurdle (2:40, 12 runners) Church Stretton Handicap Chase (3:10, 8 runners) AJA Amateur Riders´ Handicap Hurdle (3:40, 14 runners) Plymouth Carvery Maiden Hurdle (4:10, 13 runners) Wedding Receptions At Ludlow Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (4:40, 12 runners)

All the horses are ready and their jockeys are padded up to jump into the high-stakes contests. But the inspection report of the course has not been unearthed yet. However, the weather is likely be normal, and all the events will be held as per schedule.
Built in 1729 by the soldiers of Ludlow Castle, this racing course holds great significance in the British horseracing market. It hosts a number of iconic events every year.
