Question:

Low water pressure and brand new water heater?

It was fitted and the water pressure was adequate but now it is really low and the water heater is not registering the flow so therefore if pressure fluctuates then no hot water. It is low fromt he mains. The man said rather than being about 10 it's 4? What does that mean? Surely they should have checked the pressue before fitting it?

Thanks

  1. Had a similar problem with low pressure in showers, got a pump which sorted that nicely, but needed a bigger hot water tank to supply the faster flow.

  2. Have you paid this man yet? if not , don't until your heater is operational. If he was aware of the water pressure the heater required to work efficiently, before fitting it, then he should not have installed it, but should have informed you of the problem, and like any tradesman worth his salt, should not have done the job.  Have you got a warranty on the heater, if so get the people you bought it from to take a look, then with their report, you could, (or maybe not) get the installer back to fix it.

  3. sounds to me like you don't have enough water pressure to run the new appliance which has been installed, yes they should have checked to make sure there was adequate pressure before installing it, the 10 or 4 thing sounds like the flow of water you have from the mains. hope this helps darren the plumber.

  4. If you had good pressure before you replaced it, then it's one of two things.  either the hot water tank still has air inside it and it needs to be bled out, or the main water supply going into the water tank is only partially opened, and needs to be opened all the way.

  5. you might consider adding a pump/tank to your home water line for some added pressure.  Especially if you live in a home that is more than 1 story tall and the water heater is downstairs.

  6. yes they should have checked the flow and pressure met the manufacturers specification beforehand

you should ask what the flow and pressure were before it was fitted, await answer from them, and what they are now

the pressure should be dynamic pressure which is the pressure when one or more taps are open

if they dont know they are inept and you shouldnt pay until its sorted out

if you paid by cheque cancel it or see if it can be held until you are satisfied

if they dont want to play ball call the manufacturers who may well send a rep to look at the installation.

the pressure and flow are different things so you should get two figures,

    pressure bar or psi

flow litres per minute or gal per minute

    other units may be used
