Question:

Low water pressure in my new house, what can I do?

My wife and I moved into our house a bout 2 years ago, new construction, never been lived in. The water pressure in just absolutely horrible. If the turn on 2 faucets at once, the water barely even trickles out of each faucet. If I am running the washing machine and try to turn on something else, you get zero pressure. I mean zero, the shower will not even come on. After contacting the home builder, they claim it has nothing to do with the homes plumbing, which I am sure they are correct, but they offered me no assistance. Is there anything I can do to increase water pressure to my home. I have the worst lawn on our street because even the best most expensive sprinkler I have baught wont even water half of the lawn. Please Help

  1. Turn off all the water, see if your water meter is still running (possible leak).

If not running, call water company, it's their problem.

  2. Is your water main turned all the way on? If so take a preasure reading at the closest place to the meter (should be 40lbs +) by puting a air preasure guage on the end of a hose (will need adapters) that you connect to that closest bib.If preasure is less than 30lbs report the water company to the state(health hazard).

  3. I don't think this is something you fix.  I think this would be the responsibility of the municipality you are getting your water from.  I would call your Dept of Public Utilities for help.

  4. buy wa6ter

  5. your water pressure should be around 60 psi. if you have a well you can install a booster pump to increase your water pressure. if you have city water i would call the water department with your concerns

  6. The first thing that I must ask you is, do you have well water or city water? If it is city water, then you have a problem with the supply, and you need to contact your utilities company to resolve the issue. In either case you can do the following: Install a storage tank in an closed-loop system. What closed loop means is that the storage tank is  pressurized. The water free flows into the tank, (the larger, the better) until it reaches a pre-set level. An external pump is used to pressurize the vessel to whatever pressure is desired (typically 15-18 psi) as water is used, it will refill and pressurize.

  7. Is your house on city water or do you have your own well?  If you have water filter change it.  Call a well/pump man a get more than one opinion...  You can also blow the well... it can be expensive but cheaper than drilling a new well...

  8. First check with your neighbors. Are they having the same problem? If yes then it is a water supply problem and the city has a poor water delivery system. Nothing you can do.

If they are not having the same problem then it could be the main lines are clogged or damaged (leaking).  Or, it could mean the contractor used cheap materials such as low diameter pipes and cheap valves to save money.

Of course the contractor is going to say it has nothing to do with him even if it does. He doesn't want to come back and make it right. Unfortunately you are going to have to prove he did not do a proper job.

  9. better move to a new house,

jk! i h eard a radio add that says that if your not comfortable with the water pressure (example, shower is not blowing water with enough pressure and and tub takes more time to fill p, then you call them, i don't know what company they are but they can help
