Question:

Low water pressure!?

We have had low water pressure in our house since we have moved here. Our neighbours however have very high water pressure. All of our pipes seem to be fine, however they rattle and vibrate alot. When we turn on the taps no air comes out so that can't be the problem and there dosen't seem to be any leeks in the pipes. What should i do?

  1. You need to replace any black pipe, supply lines. sounds like you have lots of rust in your lines. the rattling is just loose pipes, not bracketed down to the studs in the wall

  2. Look at your water heater. There is a k**b on there that you can use to turn the water pressure up or down as needed. All you have to do is turn that k**b & it will increase the pressure. Trust me, I am sure on this because I just turned mine back down earlier tonight:)

  3. consider the age of the home and if it is galvanized piping.

been know cake up inside the pipes over the years.

Does all the faucets have the same problem?

Outside the house at hose bibs also?

Removing the faucet end does the pressure increase?

Shut off all the faucets inside and outside and then check if the meter is still moving. If it is you have a leak after the meter to your house.  You can also do a pressure test on you water line to check for leaks.

I am without seeing, that it is caked galvanized pipes.  Good Luck

    Black pipe is for gas.

  4. It sounds like you have more than one problem. The rattling and vibrating is likely separate from the low water pressure issue. The low pressure may be a PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) that may be faulty and need servicing if there is one in place. If not, it may be a valve that is partially closed or your lines may be plugged with tuberculation or lime. You should call a plumber to examine your PRV and the water lines if required. The noise is either coming from piping that is poorly strapped or braced or is vibrating from a faulty quick closing valve. Your toilet tank's ball c**k valve may be the culprit as well.

  5. It could be a water flow problem..have you checked the water pressure?  If your pipes have many bends that causes those types of issues.
