Lower Dauphin defeats the Lancaster-Lebanon boys volleyball team by 3-0: Volleyball news
The Falcons were able to secure themselves a position in the quarter-finals of the District 3-AAA Boys' Volleyball Championships as they handed out a defeat to the Lancaster-Lebanon boys volleyball team on Monday.
The Falcons did a quick job of their rivals by making a clean sweep over Ephrata. The recent win surprised the Falcons peers as the squad was considered the underdogs in the match. As the excited Falcons started celebrating their hard earned victory, Spartan
Center was filled with loud hoots of joy. Amidst the cheers, a score line of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22 was blinking on the score board.
The start of the first set of the game set the tone for the rest of the match. The Falcons began by coming out strong and making Ephrata play to their fullest. The Falcons were able to take the lead for themselves and kept extending their advantage. The
Falcons put the pressure on Ephrata by raining down relentless kills. The total number of kills that the Falcons were able to hammer down on Ephrata tallies at 12. Ephrata could not put up a significant defense against the outstanding attack of the Falcons
who finally sealed the deal on the first set of the game at 25-17.
Capitalising on the momentum built at the end of the opening set of the game, the Falcons started off the second set looking to repeat the results of the first. The performance of the team was far better than that of Ephrata in almost all aspects of the
game. Again the Falcon hitters periodically administered well timed and precise kills against Ephrata. Prominent among the Falcon hitters were Andrew Roberts and Ryan McIntyre. In the end it was not a tough job for the Falcons to bag the second set of the
game at 25-19.
With two sets down, the pressure on Ephrata increased tremendously and they desperately looked for a win. As a result, they were able to rally together and step up their game a notch. However, the effort they put in was half-hearted and did not stop the
Falcons from walking away with the third set of the game at 25-22.
After the match whistle was blown, the head coach of Lower Dauphin, Dave Machamer, shared how he motivated his team to perform well, "I told the guys a story about the 2007 team that was far behind Penn Manor entering districts, but we took them out," LD
head coach Dave Machamer said. "I told the guys that if we allow [Ephrata] to play with us, we will regret it.”
The team will be celebrating this win for next couple of days as the Ephrata squad hopes to learn from their mistakes.
