The D40 with the 18-55 kit lens is $469.95 at B&H Photo, with free shipping.  If you find a deal much less than that, it is likely a scam.  Always check www.resellerratings.com before purchasing from an on-line retailer.

Be careful buying Nikon cameras or lenses online! If you are in Canada and purchase a unit from a US source, Nikon Canada will not give you warranty protection or do any repairs for you. You would have to send it back to the US if you have any issues. Also, stay away from gray market product. It has no warranty support anywhere at any cost! I'm not sure if the same is true buying Canadian product for shipment into the US or not...
