Lowgate Julie beats out race favourite Kranky BIll at Sheffield
Lowgate Julie picked up a big win Monday at the Sheffield Greyhound Stadium, running the 480m A6 race in 30.23. Julie came in at 3-1 odds and finished four lengths ahead of Blackrock Rosie, who at 7-2 odds provided a finish of 30.55. Race favourite Kranky Bill came in third.

Fourth place went to Rambos Ceilidh (7-2), whose 30.89 finish was 3 lengths behind third place. The last two spots were claimed by Russanda Popsy (5-1, fifth place), and Rockchasedicanio (3-1, sixth place). Russanda Popsy finished in 31.23, 4¼ lengths out of fourth, while Rockchasedicanio was ¾ lengths behind fifth in 31.29.
Kranky Bill is not a happy dog today, and who can blame him? Before the race, the odds makers had selected him as the 5-2 favourite to win, but he failed to reach his expectations.
Throughout his racing career, the four-year veteran has strung together an impressive 26 wins. His best finishes to date were three consecutive wins from 17 to 27 April, while his worst finish occurred in only the fourth race of his career. He placed last, with a big 17¼ lengths separating him from fifth place.
An HP race was next on the card. This race featured some very close finishes from the six racers involved. The winner was Runaround Tia (6-1), who finished with a great time of 16.93, despite some minor bumping. A shoulder’s length separated first place from second, and second place from third. Clear Blue (9-2) took second place in 16.93, while pre-race favourite Logandyke Rebel (9-4) claimed third in 16.94. Clear Blue held an early pace, and led first to run in.
Finishing a neck out of the third spot was Lisbon Lee (7-2), with a time of 16.96. He was only a single length ahead of Roman Thunder (3-1), who placed fifth with a 17.04 finishing time. He lost his thunder after badly bumping second. Lastchancemolly (3-1) failed to capitalize on her good chances, as she came in last place with a finish of 17.10. She was only ¾ lengths out of the fifth position.
Will Kranky Bill run a better race next time? Racing fans sure hope that he does. He will get another chance to sprint for a win Tuesday night at Sheffield Greyhound Stadium. The races are scheduled to begin at 19:30 local time.
