Lowly St. Louis Rams travel to face San Francisco 49ers – NFL Preview
The lowly St. Louis Rams face yet another challenging situation as they take on San Francisco 49ers in Week 10 game on Sunday, November 11, at Candlestick Park.
Both teams represent National Football Conference (West). The difference, however, between them is that 49ers are leading the division after winning six games in the first half of the season, while Rams are placed at the bottom of the division after winning
only three games in the first half.
Both teams are coming off their bye week in this game, hoping to get a fresh and consistent start to the second half of the season.
The situation of both teams is entirely different in a number of ways. 49ers are currently on a two-game winning streak with the wins coming against Seattle Seahawks (13-6) and Arizona Cardinals (24-3), while Rams are currently on a three-game losing streak
with the defeats coming against Miami Dolphins (17-14), Green Bay Packers (30-20) and New England Patriots (45-7).
Furthermore, the 49ers are brilliant on the offence as well as defence, while Rams seem to be struggling in these areas as well.
So there is no denying that 49ers are going to enter the field with an upper hand against Rams.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher knows that his team has a tough challenge to beat 49ers and admits that it is not going to be easy. He has appreciated 49ers’ offence, saying that it is very difficult to prepare for such a team.
Meanwhile, Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis has also second his coach’s opinion. He said of 49ers’ offence:
“As an offence, they’re a really balanced attack. And when you have an o-line like that, gosh. They run some weird running plays now. You’ll see some running plays I don’t think I’ve seen since Tecmo Super Bowl.”
He added:
“They’re a blueprint for what you want to be as a football team. They take the ball away extremely well and they don’t give it away. Anytime you do that consistently, that’s going to be a recipe for success.”
Rams are certainly not adopting an overambitious approach. They know that it is difficult for them to qualify for the playoffs, especially in the tough NFC West in which Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals are also placed ahead of them.
Currently at 3-5, Rams are lucky that they have beaten their last season’s 2-14 record. In the second half of the season, they are going to play eight more games and if they are able to win even three of them it will be a commendable achievement for them.
As for 49ers, victories are must for them if they want to remain in rhythm in order to easily qualify for the playoffs and getting a shot at the National Football League (NFL) title.
