Question:

Lowrance 520c external GPS "Module Not Responding"?

I am getting the message "GPS module not responding" when I turn on my fish finder. I've checked the Lowrance website and the FAQ's suggest that it is an electrical problem. We've checked every connection and confirmed that power is running to the unit, and all the wiring in OK. I downloaded the software upgrade and reset the unit. I initialized the GPS. Do you think it is the "puck" antenna? Can you think of anything I've missed? I feel like our problems started when we "deleted trails" but that may just be a coincidence. I bought a new battery and checked that it is full power at my mechanics shop.

  1. Double check your power & grounds; I just had a O.S.M. offshore with the same error your unit has. This time it really was just a bad connection. I replaced a transducer on the sonar unit and must have tweaked something around.

I am on my 4th antenna..... the first 2 went out when a boat with a large radar got close. the 3rd just kaput on open water.

If your connections check out; try to find a unit that uses the same antenna and do some swapping. Take your antenna into a store with display units and see if the problem follows you.

Chances are good you are facing a new antenna.

I won't run offshore bottom fishing without a backup GPS after all the headaches I've had with my antennas.
