Loyalty may take the surprise lead in the Blue Square Winter Derby at Lingfield
The Class 1 Blue Square Winter Derby is anxiously anticipated as some of the best runners will exhibit their skill at Lingfield on 24th March, 2012. The 1 mile and 2 furlong race holds a purse of £56,710 where 14 runners will be competing.
Loyalty, Emerald Wilderness and Vivacious Vivienne are likely to perform in an unexpected manner against Premio Loco, Black Spirit, Cai Shen, Circumvent, Junoob, Lyssio, Our Joe Mac, Riggins, Suits Me, Myplacelater, and Sooraah.
Loyalty has been falling short of his trainer Derek Shaw’s expectations this season.  The son of Medicean, out of Ecoutila, finished 2011 in an impressive manner as he landed first in the Betfred Double Delight Conditions Stakes at Lingfield on 17th
December, 2011. He defeated Night Lily by a narrow distance of a neck. He was consistent and steady and had a strong run to the finish line.
The start of this season was less impressive and slightly disappointing for the eight-year-old gelding’s connections.
He finished seventh in the Get Your Bet On At Blue Square Handicap at Lingfield on 18th February, 2012.
With Joe Fanning, he could not gain speed in the beginning and stumbled, never in the winning range or threatening the leaders at any point.
With Dane O’Neill as his jockey, he finished eighth in the William Hill Lincoln Trial Handicap at Wolverhampton on 10th March, 2012.
With this as his recent performance, things are not looking up for him but he may be a surprise.
Trained by Robert Cowell, Emerald Wilderness’s luck turned around after a hat-trick as his performances drastically started falling short of all expectations.
His owner, Mrs. J Morley & Khalifa Dasmal, are hoping that the five-year-old gelding will recover in this match and perform well.
The son of Green Desert, out of Simla Bibi, finished in thirteenth place in a line-up of fourteen runners in the S O G Finance Handicap at Meydan on 17th February, 2012. With William Buick as his rider, he settled in the back of the pack and didn’t
threaten the leaders at any point.
On 1st March 2012, he finished twelfth in a line-up of fourteen in the Al Dana Wealth Handicap at Meydan again.
This time he was ridden by Richard Mullen, he gathered pace and led at some point but weakened towards the end and was overtaken by the other runners.
This is an opportunity for him to redeem himself and demonstrate his true potential. The familiar ground is an advantage for him and he may repeat his stellar performances.
Vivacious Vivienne may be able to claim a placed finish in this race as the six-year-old mare is more suited to longer distances.
The daughter of Dubai Destination, out of Epistoliere, stood third in the Hibernia Steel LTD. Race at Dundalk on 2nd March, 2012. The 1 mile race was a comfortable distance for the mare as she finished a head after second place Banna Boirche.

The Donal Kinsella bay mare may be able to challenge the front runners in this race.
Based on their market popularity, Loyalty and Emerald Wilderness may return in full form claiming, fighting for a finish in first or second place whereas Vivacious Vivienne may land in third.
