Loyola Greyhounds resolved to improve on disappointing 2011 season – Volleyball News
The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team is looking forward to improve on last year’s results in the 2012 season. The Loyola Greyhounds finished the previous season with an overall 8-23 record, whereas claimed 5-13 in the
(Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) MAAC.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to open the 2012 season on Friday, August 24. The team will take part in the Mountaineers Invitational, which will take place at Morgantown, West Virginia. Loyola ladies will be joined by teams from Central Connecticut, St. Francis,
and hosts W. Virginia. Following the completion of Mountaineers Invitational, the Greyhounds will take a short road trip to Towson to play one match on August 28.
Afterwards, the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational will take centre stage from August 31 to September 1. Pittsburgh will host the tournament, while Bucknell, Norfolk State, Providence and Duquesne will be on board alongside Greyhounds.
Loyola Greyhounds will return home for third tournament of the regular season. The Marriott Greyhound Challenge will cover its length from Sep. 7-8. The hosts will go against Rider, Charleston Southern and Morgan State in the competition.
After the home campaign, Loyola will get a weekend off, in order to prepare for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches. According to the announced schedule, the Greyhounds will participate in a total of 17 MAAC games before the semi-final and final
matches in November.
Lawrence, the head coach of Greyhounds, is determined to give the right set of directions to his team to improve in the 2012 season. Loyola women’s volleyball team is currently in a dire need to shake off the bad impression by displaying good performance.
Greyhounds have high hopes to do well in the season.
In the recent memory, the team went through spring practice and worked on its flaws. The spring schedule of Loyola University Maryland featured four tournaments e.g. Georgetown Tournament, UMBC Tournament, Penn Tournament, and Towson Tournament. These tournaments
created a good opportunity for Greyhounds to get ready and get in order before the start of the new season.
Speaking of the spring tournaments, the Head Volleyball Coach of Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball programme Jake Lawrence said: "I'm excited about our spring matches this year. Our winter session and six-week spring season are critical to our
success in 2012. We benefit from having so many teams in the local area and we'll play almost everyone in our region by the end of April. The team is working hard in the gym and is excited about getting to face some outside competition again."
"I'm excited about our schedule this year as our team is a year older and a year more experienced," concluded Jake Lawrence.
