Lsat Prep help.?

Do you think it is worth taking a prep course for 800 dollars that is 11 days in it? It is 4 hours each day. I have a lot of material and I am going to study all of it. But I am wondering if I will regret not taking the prep course. How many think they would study alone or would use a prep course for the Lsat?

  1. I guess it depends how well you are capable of studying on your own.  I didn't take a prep class - just studied using prep books - and I did fine.  I got a 160 - that's not going to get me into Berkeley or anything, but it was good enough.  The one thing I think I could have benefited from in taking a prep class would have been strategies for the logic games.

  2. Do you mean a course that meets 11 times (44 hours) for $800? It might help, but most of the elite courses taught live are a bit more in terms of cost and a lot more in terms of total hours (75 hours total and up is the norm).

Why not study the material you have for a while and see how your scoring goes, then take a prep course if you feel like you aren't progressing the way you should? You might save some money, and either way you still have the option of taking the course down the road.

I know plenty of people who studied with prep books and did well, and a lot of people who took courses and did well. It just depends on the person and what suits them best.

I got it, thanks for the info. Seems like it may be cheaper, but on a per-hour basis it is still more expensive: $800/44 = $18 per hour vs $1200/80 = $15 per hour. My thought with LSAT prep is that given how important the test is to the admissions committee, its better not to mess around worrying over a few hundred bucks. You already are into it for at least $800, anyway. Good luck with the decision--its a tough one!
