Lu Chien-Soon becomes the oldest winner on the Asian Development Tour
Lu Chien-Soon, at the age of 52 years, became the oldest winner on the Asian Development Tour, after winning the Yeangder ADT at the National Garden Country Club.
The Taiwanese star was crowed as the winner, after the tournament officials decided to shorten the event to 54 holes, following unplayable conditions on Friday.
Lin Wen-Tang, who trailed the overnight leader Chien-Soon by five shots after the third round, was aiming to make a strong charge on the leaderboard by posting a low score in the final round.
However, the torrential rain did not allow the Taiwanese player to make a try to achieve his goal.
“The extremely wet conditions made it a challenge for play to continue. As such, we have taken the decision with the sponsor to reduce the tournament to 54 holes, with the final results taken from the third round,” said Adnan Othman, the ADT’s Tournament
Director of the Yeangder ADT.
Chien-Soon, who plies his trade on the US Champions Tour, was pleased with his back-to-back victories in two weeks straight – he also won a seniors event last week in Taiwan.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that his putting and ball striking technique provided him advantage over his competitors in the field.
“I just came back from the Champions Tour and played two seniors event here. I had the two events to warm up and everything worked well for me. It is nice to be winning against these younger guys,” said Lu, who won US$21,000 prize money.
Wen-Tang, in the meantime, finished second on the leaderboard. Chan Yih-shin and Brian Locke and shared the third position, after finishing eight strokes behind the winner.
Jay Bayron, in the meantime, made the headlines by finishing on top of the Asian Development Tour Order of Merit.
He was delighted to qualify for the 2013 Asian Tour card. According to the Asian Tour’s qualifying policy, the top-three players from the Asian Development Tour will receive invitations to play on the bigger stage next season.
Hsu Mong-Nan of Chinese Taipei and Peter Richardson of England were the other two players who succeeded in finishing among the top-three players in the Order of Merit.
