Lu Chien-Soon leads the Yeangder ADT after two rounds
Veteran Lu Chien-Soon’s brilliant second round 63 gave the Taiwanese a five-shot lead over Korean T.J. Kim at the halfway stage of the Yeangder ADT, on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.
The season-ending tournament of the Asian Development Tour is being played at the National Garden Country Club, offering a prize fund of US$120,000 to the participants,
Chien-Soon was brilliant with his putter, having used only 25 putts to complete his second round campaign.
The 52-year-old, who plays on the Champions Tour in the United States, came flying out of the blocks with seven birdies in a row, including a 24-footer on the 12th hole. He then added another four birdies to his scorecard against two bogeys.
He is now in prime position to win his 33rd title in Asia, as he leads on 15-under par 129 in Miaoli County, Taiwan.
Talking to the reporters after finishing his second round, he expressed his wish to end his 2012 campaign with two back-to-back victories, having won a senior’s event last week on his home soil.
When asked about the secret behind his performance on day two, he credited his fitness regime for the spectacular show with his clubs at the National Garden Country Club.
“The last time I made so many birdies was way back in 1983. I remember it was six birdies in a row so this beats that personal record,” he said.
He added, “There’s no secret to my fitness because I practise from 7am to 5 or 6pm every day! When I won last week, I shot a 62 in the second round and many people were saying you can only do that in a seniors’ event. I guess I proved them wrong”.
Kim, in the meantime, fired a bogey-free six-under par 66, and was pleased with his performance, entering the final two rounds on the weekend.
Recently, he opened a golf academy in Korea and decided to bring one of his two students to carry his bag during the tournament.
“Right now, I only have two students so I thought it would be a treat to bring him here,” he said.
