Lu Yen-Hsun: An upcoming sensation in the world of tennis
Nowadays, we see that talented players in the field of tennis are emerging from Asia. This shows that awareness about the sport is rapidly spreading across the Asian continent. The most prominent name in the list of Asian players is that of Lu Yen-Hsun. He is ranked 82nd in the world and is the number 1 player in Asia.

Lu was born in Taiwan on 14th August, 1983. He started off with his professional tennis career in 2004, when he became the first person form the Republic of China to break into the ATP top 100 rankings. His most noticeable win that year was at Queens, where he defeated Guillermo Coria, who was the world number 3 at that time. However, due to a few injuries in 2005, Lu’s rankings dropped drastically. In order to recover and to make his way back to the top, he started training with Rainer Schuettler and Janko Tipsarevic in Dubai under the supervision of Dirk Hordorff. This training brought about visible results and Lu was able to participate in the Australian Open 2007, where he reached the second round.

From here, Lu’s professional tennis career took a flight as he started participating in tennis tournaments at an international level more frequently. He was a part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was representing Chinese Taipei. Lu amazed the audiences by defeating the sixth ranked tennis player in the world, Andy Murray, in straight sets. Further, in 2009, Lu participated in the Australian Open and this time he managed to reach the third round. This was the first time he had reached the third round in any Grand Slam tournament.

However, Lu Yen-Hsun’s best performance yet has been his match with Andy Roddick in Wimbledon 2010 which is currently taking place in London. Lu, who is an un-seeded player, achieved victory against Roddick, who was seeded as the number five in Wimbledon 2010. Roddick was the runners- up in the2009 edition of Wimbledon who has been knocked out by Lu in the fourth round this year. This is the first time that Lu has reached the quarterfinals in any Grand Slam tournament. In fact, Lu is the first ever Chinese Taipei to ever get to this point in a tennis tournament. Lu has indeed made history by performing so very well in this championship. The match he played against Roddick has been the second longest match during Wimbledon 2010. It lasted for four hours and thirty six minutes. However, Lu did not lose any interest from the fans who sat through the match, feeling the excitement that he brought to the court. He will now play against Novak Djokovic in order to gain a place in the semi-finals.

Lu has not only made history in the Wimbledon 2010 men’s singles tournament, but he has also set a record in the men’s doubles. He has teamed up with Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia and has advanced to Wimbledon’s round of 16 in the men’s doubles as well. This happened just a day after he amazed the world with his progression to the quarterfinals in the men’s singles title. Lu had made his debut in the men’s doubles in Wimbledon 2009, where he did not make it to the first round. His recent performances have proved to the world that his game has improved tremendously.

This player from Taiwan, who was not very well-known before, has now made his name prominent in the world of professional tennis. It is remarkable that a boy, who used to chase chickens for the family business before becoming a professional tennis player, has gotten so far ahead in his career. Seeing his success, one can feel the passion that Lu has for tennis and the hard work he has put in to achieving so much fame in the game. With such enthusiasm the tennis player is expected to excel to great heights in the world of tennis.
