Luana Vicente tames Emily Kan to advance into quarter-final of XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012
Brazil’s Luana Vicente lived up to the expectations as she put up strong show of positive badminton and reached into Girl’s Singles quarter-final after defeating USA’s Emily Kan in round-of-16 match at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 on Wednesday,
July 25, in Canada.
Luana, who is the top seed in main draw of Girl’s Singles, was in complete control of the game throughout the battle and easily tamed her lower ranked opponent without losing any game.
The top seeded Brazilian shuttler put up spectacular show of elevated badminton and did not let her opponent to make the score levelled even for a single time in the whole contest.
The in-form Luana easily made her mark over Emily in straight games by working for 21 minutes on court.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Emily could not live up to expectations in both games of the contest as she failed to put up strong resistance on court and bowed down to her higher ranked challenger in two sets with a comfortable difference.
In the first set, Luana played with complete control as she dictated the pace of rallies while remaining quick on court and took a wonderful lead of 11-6 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Emily tried to catch up the deficit but failed to destroy the defence of her Brazilian opponent.
On the other hand, Luana was focused and aggressive in her play and did not face any considerable problem in ending up the first game with a superb 21-16 score on the board.
In the following set, Luana again remained on driving seat as she played in the similar fashion without sparing any chance for Emily to show up her brilliance.
Until the break, it was Luana again who took a reasonable lead on score board by reaching at 11-8.
After the interval, Luana stretched the gap on score board by injecting more power in her shots and remained successful in taking the game with a tremendous 21-14 score on the board.
The spirited Luana finished off this entertaining battle in just 21 minutes with a convincing score of 21-16 and 21-14.
