Luane Rowe seizes Women’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Luane Rowe of TVM seized gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the 18-24 age category on opening day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
The 23-year-old Rowe demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the thirty-lap freestyle discipline. With her epic pace, she gave no chance to her competitors to retaliate and proved her mettle for gold medal of the discipline.
She not only grabbed gold medal of the discipline but also stunned the arena by lowering the championship record of the discipline with her nerve-wrecking pace of 17 minutes and 22.39 seconds.
Her time was comfortably under the meet record of 17 minutes and 27.74 seconds, owned by Alison Templin from 2011.
The gold medallist was trailed by Lauren T Bailey of CMS, who remained more than two and a half a minute slower from her and settled on the victory stand as second position holder by producing a time of 20 minutes and 04.97 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Kari N Weihl of NEBR, who stayed almost one and a half minute behind but managed to reach the podium for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 21 minutes and 33.47 seconds.
Following that, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Deborah Dawson of NBAC, who dominated the equivalent event in Women’s 40-44 year old category.
The 44-year-old Dawson stayed prominently ahead of her challengers and paved her way to the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 19 minutes and 15.11 seconds.
With her fascinating form, she remained considerably faster from her following swimmer, Ginger Tompkins of GCST, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 20 minutes and 45.97 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Jana P Chesley of ROSE, who proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by reporting an effort of 21 minutes and 28.48 seconds.
In addition, the championship will continue for few more days to conclude all swimming events while the audience acknowledged ruthless efforts of all participants.
