Lube Banca Marche MACERATA defeats TRENTINO planetwin365 by 3-2 in a CEV match
Lube Banca Marche MACERATA of Italy played with the TRENTINO planetwin365 on February 22.
The match was part of the first round of the Playoffs 6 of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Men that is currently being played in many of the European cities. The match between the two sides was hosted in the Italian city of Macerata.
The competition took place in the local sports hall but the venue was entirely sold out as the home side was competing with the world champions as well as the three time European champions. What followed was a match that ended in delight for the home crowd
as their team was able to defeat the guests by 3-2. The final set scores stood at the following final set scores: 16-25, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 15-9.
The coach of the Lube Banca Marche squad, Alberto Giuliani, expressed himself on the matter in the following words after the match had come to its end, “I must thank my players because tonight they showed their best attitude and great character. We scored
an important victory tonight, but the qualification for the final four is still far, because in Trento we are expecting a very difficult battle.”
The first set of the match saw the TRENTINO squad gain dominance immediately and extend their advantage until 11-9. They did not let go of the lead and continued to play strong by taking the lead until 15-12. The home side was left trailing behind as the
TRENTINO picked up speed and bagged the first frame of the game at 25-16.
The second set followed the same pattern as the previous set with the world champions in a strong position throughout the set. Despite the fact that the home side put in a good effort, it was not enough to secure the frame which went to TRENTINO at 25-19.
When it looked like that the home team would be swept by the TRENTINO squad, they rallied together and put in a valiant effort that enabled them to avoid a sweep by winning the third set at 25-18. After the third set win, the fourth as well as the fifth
frames went the way of the home side at 25-22 and 15-9 respectively.
