Lubrication on a Carburetor? Check it out.?

Well on my Chevelle, the car is operating great! My question is this: Sometimes, when I press the gas pedal (not driving, just fixing parts), it'll open the carb and get full throttle but will not return all the way. When I let off the pedal, it will return half way but kinda get stuck. Sometimes, it'll pop back all the way; however, sometimes it does not. Every part is on the carb. and the throttle return spring is in good working condition. So I figure, it may just be that something is sticking on the outside of the carb. and tomorrow, I was going to spray it a lil' where all the connections are made and see if that frees it up a lil' bit. I just don't know what fluid to use. I'm not going to be spraying inside the carb or getting it with any other items, but just looking at loosing it up so the gas pedal will pop back after each time it is punched. Thanks

  1. i would use pb blaster that stuffs pretty good i wouldnt use wd 40 cause that just like starting fluid

  2. There are three possibilities (actually four...):

    - The throttle cable is sticking.

    - The carburator linkage is sticking

    - The carburator internals are sticking (carbon buildup)

    - Any combination of the above

  3. bp blaster might work but a stronger return spring or just a second spring would be better also make sure bore holes are not wallowed out as this can cause sticking and binding problems
