Luc Gosselin, France Jacquot secure quarter-final berth in Canadian Masters Badminton Championships
Mixed Doubles experts Luc Gosselin and France Jacquot marched into quarter-final round of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships as they crushed insipid duo Trevor Rowsell-Sheilagh O’ Driscoll on May 8, 2012.
Both Canadian teams sweat hard for 50 minutes to overcome each other but final results of 8-21, 21-11 and 21-17 remained in favour of Luc-France who hammered their challengers in an irrefutable fashion.
They were bit scratchy in the start but stunned their opponents in final two games of the match while the opposing team Trevor Rowsell-Sheilagh O’ Driscoll limped out of the race after an impressive start.
The first set of match proved one-sided contest as Roswell-Driscoll got into commanding position straight away in the beginning and delivered a splendid 13-point drubbing.
They pushed their rivals in all areas of the court and kept them busy in just returning their masterly crafted strokes.
They did not give even a single opportunity of counter attack and bagged first match point with 21-8 score on the board.
However, this first set loss did not harm Luc-France much as they stormed back in very next game and successfully kept the contest alive.
This time they capitalised on that lifeline. Their coordination was superb against the compatriot duo who failed to find rhythm to match their skills.
In first half of the set, Luc-France managed to gain a decent advantage and reached at notable total of 11 points before the one-minute break.
After the interval, they did not allow the opposing contenders to catch them on scoreboard and finished second set by registering distinctive figure of 21-11.
Third and final set added more excitement in the tussle as both strived hard to avoid a woeful exit.
The twosome of Roswell-Driscoll established an immediate lead in the start but this cameo did not last long as the partnership of Luc and France had enough firepower to cause a scare.
They persisted with positive approach and remained few steps ahead of their rivals throughout the race.
Finally, Mixed Doubles experts Roswell and Driscoll coasted home after reading final figure of 17-21.
The victorious duo will now meet second seeded couple Elliott Beals-Joanne Gillette in quarter-finals of the event.
