Luc Mbah a Moute, Chuck Hayes:
Top Free agents this off season – NBA Special Report (Part 1)
The lockout has taken effect in NBA and for an indefinite period, everything including trades, signings, training session and games have stopped. Nothing is sure at the moment except one thing that the lockout will eventually end
and when it does, the free agents and the seeking franchises will be in business.
As soon as the free agency period approaches, team managements begin crooning their necks in each corner of the NBA world in search of worthy contracts. By worthy, I don’t only mean the top scorers or the best defensive players,
but player that will also come in handy in some sort of formation or rotation along with present players. Above all, money is the biggest issue.
And rest assured this time will be no different.
At times the market is over flowing with talent and almost everyone makes a nice grab. This season, however, the best options seem to be veterans who are lingering on, eager to showcase their qualities and tell the world they’re
still worthy of much. Franchises though normally look for new and emerging talent, who just need a change or a bigger show to make his mark. After all, franchise owners mean business more than distributing opportunities to players.
Enter the different available free agents this off-season.
In no numeric order, first is Luc Richard Mbah a Moute of the Milwaukee Bucks. The 6ft 8in Cameroonian Prince averaged 6.7 points in his three seasons while adding 5.6 rebounds to his sheet. Still, Mbah a Moute is worth having
on the court – your side of the court, that is. His defensive skills are simply mesmerising. In last year’s regular season, he gave the recent NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Dirk Nowitzki quite a tough time on the floor. Dallas Mavericks superstar only managed
43% shooting from the field while facing Mbah a Moute.
Mbah a Moute is, however a restricted player. He may cost the interested franchise more than usual but again, his defence is something many franchises will be interested in. If teams do actually start worrying about restricted
players, it would just worsen the scenario and leave even less players to look forward to new signings.
Talking of non-restricted options, we have centre Chuck Hayes of the Houston Rockets out there waiting to be towed on. Chuck Hayes is league’s one of the shortest centres. Being the mini version of a centre, he has to put up with
bigger counter parts and put in more effort. Hayes however has just had his best offensive season with the Rockets. He recorded 11 double-double performances this season and was constantly a positive force on the Houston Rockets court. His addition to any
roster will benefit the organisation, and his restriction should be considered less of an issue. After all to gain something, you got to lose something.
