Luca Brecel, Joel Walker, Michael Wasley and Tian Pengfei get wins: 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifiers
Qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic started with full swing at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. In the first round matches of the qualifying session, the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) entrants started their journey playing their
qualifying matches. However, not all of them were successful to make it to the second round qualifiers.
With impressive snooker skills, Luca Brecel, Joel Walker, Michael Wasley and Tian Pengfei scored their first wins and gave a fresh start to their season campaign. These rookies defeated Daniel Wells 5-1, Cao Yupeng 5-4, Liam Highfield by 5-4 and Duane Jones
by 5-4 respectively. Winning the opening matches of the 2012 Wuxi Classic, which is now a major ranking snooker event, will give them a lot of confidence.
The young Belgian potter, Luca Brecel, who became the youngest ever to play in any World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, played outstandingly against the Welsh potter and former Welsh National Number one, Daniel Wells.
The match up was a piece of cake for the youngster as he cruised into 5-1 victory easily. During his match against Wells, Brecel fired some outstanding snooker breaks of 108 and 122 to unsettle his opponent completely. Brecel will now face Thailand's Dechawat
Poomjaeng in the second round of the qualifying session.
Former winner of Riley’s Future Snooker Star, Joel Walker had a tussling encounter against China’s Cao Yupeng in the opening round of the qualifiers. Yupeng showed great determination in the 2012 World Snooker Championship and was able to make it to the
second round beating Mark Allen in the first.
The Walker-Yupeng match up was a tough one as both potters went neck and neck grab the victory. The match was dragged into the decisive frame where Walker was successful to move into the second round.
The World Snooker Q School entrant, Michael Wasley had to come up with some strategy to beat Liam Highfield. The match up was very difficult as both potters dragged it into the final decider where Wasley was victorious to surge into the second round.
Another tough game was played between China’s Tian Pengfei and Duane Jones. The Chinese potter tumbled down in the start by the score line of 0-2 but he bounced back brilliantly to claim the victory by the score line of 5-4.
