Luca Brecel wins Rookie of the Year Award – Snooker Update
Snooker world was shocked when they saw a mere amateur making his way into the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after earning four wins in the qualifying session.
This young Belgian potter, the 17-year-old Luca Brecel, broke the record of the former seven-time World Snooker Championship winner, Stephen Hendry and became the youngest potter to appear in a World Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Due to his superb performance in the 2012 World Snooker Championship, Brecel has been selected as the Rookie of the Year by the snooker governing body, World Snooker. Brecel has been quite impressive at the baize during the Championship.
Despite the fact that he lost in his first round match against Stephen Maguire, the youngster did show his talent which really hit the hearts of many top guns of snooker and they really wished him luck for his future. Brecel showed great determination in
the final stages of the 2011-12 Snooker Season, which has put him in the emerging snooker talents of the present.
The youngster started his Championship campaign from the first round of the qualifying session after beating the Englishman Ian McCulloch by 10-2. In his journey to reach the opening round of the mega event, the young cueman had to take care of Barry Pinches,
Michael Holt and Mark King. The Belgian talent will now be aiming to perform better in the coming snooker season.
Meanwhile, the four-time World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan won the World Snooker Player of the Year Award and the Snooker Writers Player of the Year Award after his outstanding cue performance in the recently finished snooker season.
O’Sullivan clinched two Players Tour Championship (PTC) events and three Premier League Snooker (PLS) events. Besides, the Essex Exocet claimed the 2012 German Masters snooker tournament victory despite his illness.
However, he also had to miss the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker event and the PTC Grand Finals due to the glandular fever but the Rocket proved his class in the 2012 World Snooker Championship and after four years of dormancy, the Wordsley potter was able
to clinch his fourth World Snooker Championship title, which brought him on top of the game once again.
