Luca Germano captures Men’s 200m freestyle title - 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships
Luca Germano of Italy captured the title of Men’s 200m freestyle category on the opening day of the 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships on Sunday, August 7, in Coimbra, Portugal. These world titles are a long course event, being
organised by the international aquatic Sport’s governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
The 23-year-old Germano accomplished the title of the freestyle swim with a breath-taking performance of 1 minute and 53.40 seconds. His time was just 0.28 seconds above the Deaf World Record of 1 minute and 53.12 seconds, set by Terence Parkin of South
Africa in September, 2009. Nevertheless, the Italian swimmer improved the championship mark of 1 minute and 59.12 seconds, made by Volodymyr Natalchuk in 2007.
The champion was in a lead of nearly three seconds over his closest competitor, Kabbach G of Brasil, who occupied the victory stand for silver medal, by clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.17 seconds. He was tracked by Artur Pioro of Poland, who stayed only
0.03 seconds behind the second position holder and occupied the podium for bronze medal, with a timing 1 minute and 56.20 seconds.
Meanwhile, Oleksii Vysotskyi of Ukraine was the fourth best swimmer of the event, as he ended his swim with an effort of 1 minute and 59.00 seconds.
He was trailed by Stepan Klimenko of Russia, who was 0.74 seconds behind his prior finisher and earned fifth position, with a timing of 1 minute and 59.74 seconds. For the sixth finest spot of the event, Artem Karnysh of Ukraine remained dominant and posted
a time of 2 minutes and 00.46 seconds.
He was two seconds ahead of his subsequent rival, Lionld Grishin of Russia, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 02.46 seconds. Meanwhile, Grishin edged out Andrej Stojanoski of Macedonia, who was the eighth fastest swimmer, with a timing of 2 minutes and
02.49 seconds.
In addition, the arena applauded for the invincible efforts of all participants, while the competition will continue for six more days to complete all swimming events.
