Luca Germano claims Men’s 200m butterfly title - 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships
Luca Germano of Italy claimed the title of Men’s 200m butterfly category, on day two of the 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships, on Monday, August 8, in Coimbra, Portugal.
The championship is a seven-day long course event, scheduled by the international aquatic sport’s governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
The 23-year-old Germano impressed the aquatic arena with his gold winning effort in the 200m event, with a record breaking time of 2 minutes and 01.71 seconds. His effort was 0.42 seconds under his previous world mark of 2 minutes and 02.13 seconds, set
by him in 2009 at Taipei. Besides, he also improved the championship mark of 2 minutes and 07.55 seconds, made by Bjorn Koch of Germany in 2007.
The Italian swimmer managed a sound lead of four seconds over his following competitor, Ilya Trishkin of Russia, who appeared on the podium for the silver medal, with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.71 seconds. The 22-year-old Trishkin was trailed by Kabbach
G of Brasil, who stayed 5.01 seconds away from overwhelming the effort of the silver medallist and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 10.72 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Phil Goldberg of Germany transpired as the fourth fastest swimmer, as he failed to overpower the bronze medallist with a difference of 0.22 seconds and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 10.94 seconds. He was followed by Callum Ross of Great
Britain, who remained 1.17 seconds behind Goldberg and reported in a fifth fastest time of 2 minutes and 12.11 seconds.
Rostyslav Iakubovskyi of Ukraine was the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, as he was 0.22 seconds behind Ross and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 12.33 seconds. Stepan Klimenko of Russia and Ryutaro Ibara of Japan were the last two swimmers to complete
their swims, as they posted timings of 2:13.11 and 2:17.70 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the winners received medals for their efforts after the session, while the championship will conclude on August 13, to complete all swimming events.
