Luca Germano conquers Men’s 400m freestyle crown - 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships
Day seven of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships got-off to a brilliant start with the scintillating performance of Luca Germano in Coimbra, Portugal, on Saturday, August 13.
The session of the championship conducted the Men’s 400m freestyle final, where Italy’s Luca Germano put on a great fight and took home his third consecutive gold medal of the meet by posting a record time of 4 minutes and 03.09 seconds. More importantly,
Germano beat German athlete, Nicky Lange’s previous record of 4 minutes and 12.64 seconds, set back at the 2007 edition of the competition.
Earlier, Germano won two gold medals in the Men’s 200m freestyle and 200m butterfly events in the current edition of the championship. After clinching three gold medals in the long course meet, Germano felt really excited and pleased with his splash in the
championships.
Luca Germano is a well-known swimmer of Italy, who has expertise in several swimming styles including the freestyle and butterfly meet. Currently, Germano is preparing hard for next year’s Olympic Games in London.
In the corresponding meet, Artur Pioro of Poland won the silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 4 minutes and 06.85 seconds. Great Britain’s Callum Ross earned the bronze title by posting a striking time of 4 minutes and 09.19 seconds.
Meanwhile, Artem Karnysh of Ukraine touched the finishing wall to post an impressive time of 4 minutes and 14.59 seconds to pick fourth place of the meet and Russia’s Vitally Obotin rounded out the top five in a time of 4 minutes and 15.37 seconds.
Vitally Obotin’s team-mate, Stepan Klimenko finished sixth in the stage after he touched the finishing wall and posted a time of 4 minutes and 18.02 seconds, while Shun Yamamoto of Japan earned seventh place honours of the meet by submitting a time of 4
minutes and 18.45 seconds. Jack Mccomish of Great Britain put in his best effort and managed to end his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 20.56 seconds to secure eighth spot.
