Luca Marmorini says Ferrari will improve in the second half of the season – Formula 1 news
Head of engines and electronics at Ferrari Luca Marmorini says that the team is looking to do much better than they have done in the first half of the season.
The team has come a long way from where it was earlier in the season. The team had a poor 2011 campaign which led to an aggressive approach of the design of the current car to compete with the top teams.
The car disappointed the team the drivers and the fans when the team dealt with a lot of issues with it. Ferrari did well to manage those issues helped and motivated through their driver Fernando Alonso’s brilliant skill to win the Malaysian GP with a complex
car under overcast and rainy conditions.
The team introduced upgrade packages later and improved the overall performance of the car considerably and Alonso responded with an improved car with two more GP wins in the season the highest so far currently.
Alonso is at the top of the charts and the team intends to keep him there by the end of the season. The break was a good way for teams and drivers to relax but now that the season is about to resume with the Belgian GP the teams are gearing up to return
to extreme competitiveness.
“Even if we can say that so far, in terms of performance and reliability of the engine, electronics and KERS, we are on target, we still want to do even better in the second half of the season when the championship will be decided, as well as meeting our
major objective of getting through right to the end without the car ever breaking down on track,” said Marmorini.
Spa is a high-paced track and one of the most popular in F1. Ferrari last won a race here in 2009 when Kimi Raikkonen was driving for Ferrari.
Alonso has had a best finish of second place at the venue in 2005 and a finish of third place in 2007.
It will be interesting to see how the team fares in the remainder of the season.
