Luca Vanni topples Luka Gregorc in the first round – Sacramento Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 317th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Luca Vanni, battled past the Slovenian contestant, Luka Gregorc, in the first round of the Sacramento Challenger 2012 held at the hard courts of California, United States.
The Italian juggled up his 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 victory against his rival in two hours and 50 minutes.
The Slovenian commenced a sloppy start, as his challenger broke his initial serve in the very first game. The Italian displayed his remarkable game plan in the initial part of the opener but Gregorc’s pace gradually increased as
the contest progressed. He broke Vanni’s confidence and evened out the score line to 4-all in the eighth game. He took hold of the opportunity and clinched the last two games to terminate the initial set with a 6-4 lead.
The 27-year-old Italian manifested his superior experience and busted his rival’s serve in the start of the second set. He secured the initial two games and stamped his 2-love lead, without facing any hindrance. Despite of the
Slovenian’s efforts, he was unable to level the scores even once. Vanni comfortably progressed and took complete advantage of his rival’s unforced errors, avenging his challenger with a 6-4 score.
The right-hander Italian participant bombarded five aces with 72 percent initial serve presentation. He attained 16 of 21 first and five of eight second serve point. The Slovenian underdog seemed powerless as he double faulted
four times, pocketing away 11 of 12 first but only eight of 18 second serve points.
The right-hander, Gregorc, perfected his game plan in the decider, providing his competitor with a tough test. The victory oscillated between the two sides, as the scores squared down after every subsequent game. Vanni emerged
as the winner, concluding the final set with a 7-6(3) after a tiebreak round.
The Italian professional fired seven aces onto his rival but committed double faults five times. He had 54 percent initial serve precision, with 20 of 21 first but only nine of 18 second delivery points. From the six serve breaks
but was unable to capitalize on even one. The 28-year-old Slovenian native smashed five aces and double faulted five times. He had a lower initial serve accuracy of 43 percent, converting 18 of 29 first and 23 of 39 second serve points.
