Luca di Montezemolo: Felipe Massa’s future uncertain at Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Chairman of Ferrari Luca di Montezemolo told that they have not yet started talks with Felipe Massa for the next 2013 season. He also reminded that Ferrari may quit Formula 1 if the sport changed dramatically.
Ferrari is still unsure about the next contract with Massa because he has been unable to generate impressive results in the current season. The chairman told that they need very competitive drivers in the team.
He said, “We will see. Not yet. For sure he has to give us good results, and Felipe has been and still is an important driver for Ferrari. We are not with a gun here to decide. We will see. I think I have to look to the future and we need two very competitive
drivers. We will see.”
Furthermore, he repeated that Ferrari could leave Formula 1 in future. He said that their prime interest is related to research about cars. He added that if the sport lacked research then Formula 1 would have to carry on without Ferrari.
Moreover, he said that Formula 1 is going more towards aeroplane research, whereas they want to focus on research related to cars. On the other hand, he told that if the sport changed and does not remains extreme technology competition and technology transfers
to road cars even then Ferrari may quit.
Additionally, he said that these concerns are not present currently but it may happen later. He added that it depends on the rules and many different reasons. Besides, he said that it may happen in the long run that electric Formula 1 may be introduced but
it would not be taken as Formula 1, currently.
Ferrari is suffering because of Massa as he has only been able to attain 35 points in the current 2012 season. In the last Belgian Grand Prix he was able to attain 10 points by finishing at the 5th position. He started the race at 14th grid place. The Belgian
GP also witnessed some incidents over the circuit which eliminated 6 drivers, out which 4 were those who had high expectations with them.
The other driver for Ferrari, Fernando Alonso, is currently the championship leader and has attained 164 points.
Let’s see if Massa is able to get the favour of the chairman of Ferrari or not.
