Luca di Montezemolo: Victory is still possible in 2012 F1 Championship – Formula 1 news
Luca di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari still believes that they can win the 2012 F1 Championship title. However, he said that they have to do plenty of hard work for it.
“This victory must not be an isolated one, but rather the starting point to a season in which we want to be the best,” said Montezemolo, as former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger also attended the gathering. “To succeed, we have to be the best in our daily
work in every sector. We know there is a lot to do, but we also know it’s not impossible.”
The scarlet team struggled with their new car F2012 during the pre-season testing programme and the technical director, Pat Fry, after the last test held at Circuit de Catalunya, ruled out the possibility of a podium finish at the first race.
Moreover, the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso said that they will face difficulties in performing well in the first few races of this season.
Nevertheless, Alonso managed to finish fifth in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after starting from the 12th place in the grid and unexpectedly won the second GP at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia with an amazing performance
on the wet track.
However, he said that his victory has changed nothing for the team as they still have a lot of work to do in order to make the significant developments for the season ahead.
Conversely, Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa has been facing huge criticism after his struggling first two races of the season.
In addition, there have been many rumours regarding Massa’s replacement in the team with Sergio Perez of Sauber who delivered an excellent performance in the second race with second place finish.
Nonetheless, Ferrari’s team principal, Stefano Domenicali said that they will do anything to support Massa. Besides, Massa has also changed his plan of going back to Brazil to see his family as now he moved towards the team’s factory in Maranello to seek
guidance from the engineers in order to identify his mistakes in the last couple of races and to improve his performance in the races ahead.
