Luca di Montezemolo haunted by 2010 F1 season’s nightmares
The Ferrari boss, Luca di Montezemolo still finds it hard to believe how the 2010 Formula One title slipped out of the team’s hands. He admitted that the thought of losing another title disturbs him like a nightmare.
He further stated that the team has done all it could, to make sure that such a disappointing end of the season is not embraced by it ever again. He explained saying that the replacement of the team’s head race engineer Chris Dyer is one of the many measures the management has taken to avoid blunders that were previously committed in the upcoming season. Ferrari has appointed the previous Red Bull employee, Pat Fry in place of Dyer, who was held responsible for tailoring a poor race strategy at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last season, costing the team its Drivers’ Championship.
The team missed its drivers’ title last year at the very last race of the season, when the team driver Fernando Alonso was asked to take a pit stop at the initial laps of the race. As the Spaniard came out of the pits, he got stuck behind the traffic and was not able to end the race anywhere above 7th place, which cost him his third championship.
However, the team is now looking forward to an improved performance this season. While talking to the reporters, di Montezemolo said, "We are working very hard on the new car. As [team principal Stefano] Domenicali and I told you back in December, there has been no revolution within our organization, just a few adjustments aimed at improving the way the team is run."
The Italian went on to add that the team has learned several lessons from last year’s failure. He said that the key to succeed in next season’s battle was to dominate the track right from the very first race of the season. He explained saying, "We must make a good start, both in terms of reliability and, above all, on the performance front.  Last year, we lost the championship in a first half that found us failing to live up to our expectations. I think this will be a very interesting championship: there are a few question marks regarding the new rules and therefore we will have to wait and see how competitive are our rivals."
Moreover, the team driver, Fernando Alonso also voiced his belief earlier today saying that the next season’s car is going to be a very competitive one. He insisted that a good start will help them bag one, or perhaps both the titles, in the upcoming season.
