Luca di Montezemolo insists Ferrari are not eager to decide about second driver – Formula 1 News
Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has said that they are not eager to decide about their second driver to accompany Fernando Alonso beyond the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Scarlet squad extended their contract with their driver, Felipe Massa for this season after the Brazilian showed some remarkable pace during the last few race of 2012. However, he is yet again surrounded by some speculations
that he may get replaced by any other driver in the next season.
Despite the ongoing rumours, Montezemolo has asserted that they are in no hurry to decide about their second driver. He also stated that they have full confidence in the 32-year-old and are hoping to see good performance by him
in the season ahead.
“Felipe is fully aware he can count on our total confidence in him,” Montezemolo told the official Ferrari website.
“I hope he will soon secure the results that will show his talent to the full, such as the great starts he pulled off at the last two Grands Prix. The future? We will talk about that further down the line as there's no hurry,”
he added.
It will be important to mention that Massa failed to score even a single point in the German Grand Prix as he spun on lap 4 after losing his rear under brake at turn one which was undoubtedly a driver’s error. Afterwards, he admitted
that he made a mistake due to which he spun at Nurburgring.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has expressed full support for their struggling driver despite his poor result in the preceding race.
“I've always said that I have a lot of confidence in him, but this is a very tough and very critical moment and for sure he is the first to be very disappointed with where we are,” Domenicali said.
Presently, Massa is standing at 7th position in the drivers’ championship with 57 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Romain Grosjean of Lotus and behind his main rival, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes. It will be interesting
to see how he performs in the Hungarian GP.
