Luca di Montezemolo insists that Ferrari will fight until the last kilometre – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s team president, Luca di Montezemolo, insists that their team will keep fighting for the title in the last three races remaining in the 2012 season.
Ferrari had been suffering from unexpected results of their car upgrades because of which their pace kept declining as Sebastian Vettel set a winning streak closing the point gap between him and Alonso. The collisions that Alonso suffered at the beginning
of the mid season had done some damage to his point lead giving Vettel enough chance to come closer to him.
Vettel finally took a six-point lead over the Ferrari driver after the Korean GP and only widening it by winning the Indian GP this weekend.
However, Ferrari has improved its pace this weekend as Alonso finished second in the race just 9.4 seconds behind Red Bull despite his fifth position on the starting grid. Montezemolo has been really impressed by Alonso’s driving in India.
“Drivers and team have never been more united to give 120%,” he said. “We're more united than ever, and the team is working on further improvements with the last three races in sight. We're ready to give it 120%, just like Alonso. We'll fight for the championship
to the last kilometre. I'm very confident.”
The team is very hopeful about their performance at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Vettel, despite his title win, was unable to perform in Abu Dhabi due to a puncture during the first lap last year. However, Vettel has won all of the last
four races and expected to keep winning given his quickest car on the grid leading him to his third consecutive title win.
The team principal for Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali, has also been giving similar statements about not admitting defeat despite what is being anticipated from Red Bull’s performance this season. The team is adamant about being positive and giving its best
right till the end of the season.
“Alonso was exceptional in India. Felipe [Massa] brought home some very important points for the constructors' championship, and the team was perfect in the strategy and reliability,” the team president commented about their performance at the Buddh International
Circuit.
